We cruised as a group of 21 close friends and family. Everyone had a great time but due to the limited number of ports we were all ready to go home at the end of day 6. It was all of our 1st experience with an Oasis Class ship, and the ship did not disappoint. The entertainment was top notch. Cats being the only exception. Bars and lounges were a lot of fun. Main Dining Room did the best it could with the mediocre ingredients provided to them. For us the gem was Central Park. I loved to people watch from our balcony. Especially at night when the lights started turning on. Cococay is always amazing and the main reason we choose Royal. Nassau isn't extremely underrated port. Especially now with Royal Beach Club. The new port is lovely and secure. My only complaint would be what you gain in security you loose in authenticity.
My husband and I try to take at least one cruise each year by ourselves, while our other cruises usually include family or groups of friends. This sailing was just the two of us. The Good Embarkation and debarkation were absolutely seamless. From the time we parked the car, we were onboard in about 10 minutes. Getting off the ship was just as quick and easy. Our room steward, Enrico, was phenomenal. He anticipated our needs, kept our cabin and bathroom spotless, and the towel animals each day were such a fun touch. We prefer the earliest dinner seating so we have plenty of time to catch the shows, play games, and enjoy the rest of the evening. Our dining room team—Iwayan, Kadek, and Joseph—provided excellent service. They were attentive, friendly, and made sure we always had everything we needed. The Not-So-Good On the second day, we noticed an unpleasant odor in our cabin that smelled like urine. We mentioned it to our steward, who immediately brought in a carpet-cleaning machine. The smell seemed to disappear at first but eventually returned. The carpet was then deep-cleaned to the point that it remained damp for quite a while, and it appeared the sofa was cleaned as well. While we appreciated the crew's efforts to address the issue, the odor never seemed to be completely resolved. The Windjammer buffet was disappointing for us. The American offerings were essentially the same each time we visited—burgers, hot dogs, chicken fingers, and fries. There was a good salad bar and a variety of Asian dishes that changed daily, but the overall selection felt limited. On a ship this size, we expected multiple buffet stations (forward, midship, and aft) and late-night buffet service. Instead, the buffet was relatively small and closed at 9:00 p.m. While Sorrento's Pizza and Café Promenade offered food later into the evening, it just wasn't the same variety we're accustomed to on other cruises. The main dining room food was also underwhelming, although that seems to be fairly common across several cruise lines these days. It almost feels like they're encouraging guests to purchase specialty dining. Most dishes could have used more seasoning, and several meats were overcooked. The beef bourguignon and New York strip were both quite tough, and the chicken breast was dry as well. Overall, we still had a wonderful vacation, thanks largely to the outstanding crew and the opportunity to relax together. While there were some disappointments, the excellent service was definitely the highlight of the cruise.
Our family of 7 includes a toddler, elementary-aged kids, parents & grandparents , and we all thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day cruise to the Caribbean. One great aspect of this cruise for us who live in Massachusetts was that we could drive directly down to the Cape Liberty Cruise Port, park in the parking lot right beside the ship and embark - no shuttle required even! When we disembarked, we walked over to the cars and drove home - so convenient! We loved our balcony rooms which were commodious and well arranged to optimise our organisation of suitcases, clothing, snorkel gear etc. and allowed us to enjoy watching the docking and sea views. Our room's attendant, Cryson, was friendly and responsive to all requests; we loved his adorable towel creatures which he made and left for us after cleaning the room - the kids looked forward to them each day :). Our entire family loved the entertainment productions (Cats production, One Sky, Aqua Theatre, Ice skating show etc) as well as the huge number of activities available eg World Cup matches on big screen, laser tag, several pool options, Abyss, zipline, trivia games, climbing wall etc. etc. These were all well run & supervised, and easy to engage in. Also enjoyed the exercise room and walking/running track. Despite the huge number of guests onboard, we could always find seats for all of us in the shows or by the pools, and the lineups for food in the many complimentary restaurants throughout the ship were reasonable. Staff throughout the various dining areas were invariably friendly and helpful. We dined in the Windjammer for breakfast, and found the variety and quality of offerings excellent - everyone had favourites, and really enjoyed the independence of choice & seating. We chose the 'My Dining' room option every night for dinner, and all of us loved the menu choices, interactions with the servers and quality of the meals. The wait staff were great - particularly Regino and his assistant Phito (sp?) who both were exceedingly attentive, flexible, patient, and thoughtful. Regino made adorable animals from cloth napkins for our kids each night and made sure all of the meals were perfect for us, including adjustments for the toddler's needs, our requests for extra appetisers etc. In Nassau we booked an excursion: "Private 4 hour Rose Island Tour snorkeling fishing" , which was excellent - The 2 operators, Frenchie & Mario, were knowledgeable, professional and really good at working with all of us - despite our wide skill & age range! Amazing fishing and snorkelling experience! We had never taken a 7-day cruise vacation before, and wondered if we would find it too long, but in fact we were actively participating in the activities and experiences right up to the last minute - highly recommend this as a fun yet relaxing family vacation!
