Ship Reviews

My wife and I haven't been on a cruise for 12 years and was a little apprehensive with traveling on a ship for 25 days along the west coast of Africa. My wife wanted to have a snapshot of Africa and its many peoples and cultures and this cruise was great for that. We generally enjoyed the Navigator ship and the staff was always very friendly to us and most remembered our name as there was only about 300 onboard. 25 days is about the upper limit on how long someone should spend on a cruise, and I am sure that RSSC's high standards of service, entertainment and their food helped us to feel satisfied everyday of the cruise, but at the end we were ready to get back to dry land. The main dining room, The Compass Rose, was very nice to eat in with the very friendly staff and the great food. We enjoyed eating by ourselves most of the nights but we made friends with three different couples and eat with them at the Compass Rose and had a great time. I would like to say that the only food disappointment was with the Italian venue for dinner. They had great desert choices (buffet) style and so we would eat at the Compass Rose and then come up for desert at the Italian restaurant. However, for an upscaled Italian restaurant, we were disappointed with lack of good to high quality olive oil and basamic vinegar choices (none at all). We asked for spicy olice oil, they had none. The oil that they used was extremely cheap cooking type of olive oil. We noticed on YouTube that Oceania's Italian restaurants have an olive oil and basamic vinegar trolly that they bring to eat table with many choices. This is missing from RSSC's Italian venues. Another thing that RSSC could have done was that we visited 14 different ports and I was hoping to see local dishes served at the restaurants reflecting the various countries we visited. Indeed I made the written suggestions in a few days of our voyage but nothing happened. We got the usual Spanish Paiella rice dish several times, whether we were in Spain or not. The entertainment was great except for the UK standup comic whose jokes and humor only made sense to older UK residents. The rest of us world travelers were puzzled and many of us left during the act. We like humor, but it needs to be tailored for many nationalities. The singing and dancing was great, and the entertainers made themselves available to the guests to talk to and to have dinner with. I would especially like to point our Janstine, the singer from one of the Baltic countries, who was especailly talented and friendly toward all. Checking in and checking out was smooth. The choice of the 14 countries visiting was good, except we visited three island chains, The Canaries, Cape Valdes, and São Tomé islands where were all very similar and quite boring tours. These should have been skipped and more mainland African countries should have replaced them. Morocco was a highlight and more time should be spent on tours there. In conclusion, we had a very good time overall, was satisfied with the staff, the food and the entertainment and we felt it was good value for the money that we spent on it. As this was only our 2nd cruise ever, we look forward to comparing this RSSC cruise with the Oceania's French Polynesian cruise next month. Stay tune.

Fourth time sailing with Regent and third time on the Navigator. Love the size of the Navigator at around 400 passengers. Not too large- not too small, just right. The staff went over and beyond to provide us with a delightful experience Loved the performers of the Regent Production Company. The comedian was also fun. The cuisine was varied and delicious. Most of the excursions were good, although unfortunately some of the destinations were overcrowded. Would suggest a substitute for Santorini and Bozcaada. Santorini was so crowed that it was difficult to move. Glad we opted for the trip to Dilos rather than attempting to navigate around Mykonos. Bozcaada had nothing of interest. Perhaps Bodrum as an alternative. Another option might be a tour of Ephesus. All in all it was a very service oriented and satisfying cruise. The ship is being retired (or sold) in 2026 and we hope the replacement is also a more intimate ship with no huge number of passengers

Like the title says, the Navigator is our favorite Regent ship! This was our 7th Regent cruise and we've done Navigator 4 of those. We've also done Grandeur, Explorer and Mariner. And yes, we like the Navigator, their oldest ship, better than the Grandeur, their newest ship. It's just something about the vibe on that ship that we love. The food, service and entertainment were excellent. And the itinerary was amazing. We've cruised most of the ultra luxury, luxury and premium lines like Silversea, Seabourn, Oceania, Explora Journeys, Cunard, Azamara, Celebrity and HAL and prefer Regent hands down (though Silversea is a close second). Out of all of those lines, I truly believe Compass Rose is the best main dining room at sea. You can't beat the diversity of their menu that changes every day. And what other line offers lobster and filet mignon any night you want it? During this cruise we didn't have one bad meal. We also love Prime 7 and ate there several nights. And since this was a very port intensive itinerary with lots of excursions leaving early, we got room service almost every day and it always arrived hot and right on the time we requested. The service on Regent is always top notch but this Navigator crew is one of the best. From our waiters, to our room steward, to the bar servers to the management, they all were very customer service oriented and wouldn't say no if you asked them for something. The entertainment was also very good. Loved all the Regent singers, dancers and orchestra as well as the acts they brought on like comedians and instrumentalists. The enrichment speakers were also very good with pertinent content for the areas we were sailing in. Embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze with no waiting and no lines. We were in a Concierge Suite D on the 8th floor mid-ship and the room was spacious with plenty of room for all our clothes. Their beds are so comfortable and we got two wi-fi connections each which was plenty for us. But like any cruise line, Regent is not perfect. A couple things they can improve on, and I added this to my feedback survey, was they need to create an app that you can use to allow you to view/book excursions, check menus and have an electronic copy of the Daily Passages schedule. Also, their in room TV programming is dated in that you can't watch the enrichment speakers on demand, you have to wait until it starts but you never know when that is (there's no schedule). That's the same with the port overviews, no on demand, it just rolls continuously so you can't just look up a port's info. Pretty archaic. But none of those things impacted the enjoyment we had on this cruise. We love Regent and are so excited to do our first World Cruise this coming January for the 154 day 2026 WC on the Mariner! And while onboard we booked a cruise for the new Prestige for early 2027. (No, we didn't go for the almost 9,000 square foot Skyview suite (I wish!). If you'd like to see a day by day review of this cruise with pictures of the food, ship and ports, along with all of our other cruises, please feel free to read my travel blog at: https://thewanderingitalian.com/

Love this cruise line! This was my third cruise with Regent. The dining is top notch and meals are prepared as you wish. Room Service was prompt and food was hot. Our suite was lovely with a veranda that we spent a lot of time on during the "at sea" times. Our room Stewart was excellent and our mini bar was kept well stocked with our favorite wines and beer. The daily cleaning was great. We loved the shows and especially enjoyed the "Crews Capers" show performed by the crew. Boarding and disembarking was a breeze. The crew and procedures are very precise, well practiced and organized. It was great being greeted at the airport by the Regent reps and having no worries about getting to the port for boarding. We have already booked our next cruise to the Western Caribbean and put a deposit on a another future cruise before leaving the ship. My only complaint is that I think passengers should be advised up front that there is a $45.00 "Sir charge" in addition to the charge of the procedure on any services in the Spa. It was a bit of a shock when I was checking out after my facial.
