Login Seven Seas Explorer® took luxury cruising to the next level, from the palatial Regent Suite to the hand-picked art accentuating her halls.
This was my 4th cruise and by far, the best one, due to it being a luxury experience. The staff and their service, the suites, the cuisine, the space (closet in suite was huge!) the activities (lectures, games, trivia, 4th of July party, etc.), the shore excursions and FREE LAUNDRY all unbelievable! Every staff member is so kind and smiles and makes you feel so at home and welcomed.....the service.....I was traveling with friends who had some dietary needs and the ship restaurant staff accommodated immediately! The experience was absolutely exquisite. The ship is beautifully appointed from floor to ceiling. Every detail on the Explorer is top notch. The place is spotless and I know why, because each time I walked up or down the stairs, there was someone shining the handrails. Our suite was spacious and had a large balcony, although it was cold out most of the top the time, so we didn’t use it often. Once, when sitting out there reading a book, I saw whales at a distance and that was a magical moment. We were in a mid range suite and it felt like a luxury hotel room, but somehow nicer. The staff on the ship was welcoming and friendly. They genuinely seemed to enjoy having us aboard and always greeted us with a smile and salutation. The food is picture perfect and tastes as good as it looks. They are also very accommodation with food allergies and preferences. There is a designated allergy free section of the expansive galley and it was easy for the kitchen staff to meet the needs of a vegetarian or celiac traveller whom we met and dined with on multiple occasions. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the several restaurants hours of operation listed in the daily newsletter, "Passages", so that you can check out all of the daily options from high end to pool grill casual. The Coffee Connection was excellent and one of my favorite places, especially in the morning. The staff remembered my drink and that felt special. The snacks in this area were just right with breakfast items in the AM and meats and cheeses in the afternoons, although I was typically at the Meridian lounge (across the way) enjoying the afternoon tea with live music. The food was unique and a broad selection of sweet and savory were offered. Compass Rose was an excellent main dining room; in fact, I enjoyed my favorite meal here. The service was excellent, the menu was broad, and they truly seemed willing to customize meals. One impressive moment was ordering Lobster Tail and having the shell removed table side. That is classic service and very much appreciated. The entertainment was top notch and a great way to wind down after a wonderful day, or start the evening at happy hour. Don't miss the daily trivia contest at 4:30pm in the observation lounge. It's a lot of fun and a good way to meet people as you can recruit a team of up to six to help increase your chances of winning. In addition, the "Krew Kapers" performance later in the week is a must see variety show presented by the surprisingly multi-talented crew members. Don't be surprised if you get teary-eyed! Because it is Alaska, and you will be passing along the Tongas National Forest, don't be surprised if you have some cloudy days or even rain. A little bit of rain and mist makes the scenery and photos more dramatic and it makes the sunny days all the better. Be sure to keep an eye out for whales, seal, sea lions, bald eagles, and other wild life. These magnificent creature are practically everywhere along the way. What more is there to say? If you appreciate luxurious surroundings, friendly people, delicious food, top notch entertainment, and a heck of a lot of fun at see, look no further. The Seven Seas Explorer has it all!
I am a first time cruiser. I was a bit nervous about embarkation which was quickly resolved as the process was smooth and simple. This level of clear direction by all staff was maintained during the entirety of the cruise. There was never a question of what do I do next. A Regent rep was always at the ready. This vessel is top of the line. Because of the high quality of maintenance the ship is elegant and beautiful. And because of her state of the art build we never felt any kind of roll or pitch. It was hard to believe we were on a ship at all. The high service to passenger ratio showed in that there was never a line nor wait for restaurants, access to gym equipment or spa services. Room service was always on time....actually on the dot! This was our 13th Regent cruise. Obviously we are very pleased with Regent...their ships, personnel, dining experiences, and excursions continue to be excellent. However, a big disaappointment was that NCL/Regent made absolutely no accommendations for World Cup viewing. The most popular and widely watched sporting event on the planet was not streamed on their ship. I was told they didn't have the licensing. Really! We were next to a Disney Ship at one of the Alaska ports, and there out by the Disney pool, you could get glimpses of a match. Our son-in-law had to paid extra, so he could stream the matches on his iPad. Poor planning on Regent's part-pennywise and dollar foolish. I believe they lost goodwill as a result of this NCL decision. We sailed earlier this year during the Super Bowl, and the ship's Constellation Theatre was amazing. Ice Scupters representing both teams, plenty of food and drinks, and the game of course on the movie screen. I hadn't expected that level of viewing, but I assumed we could at least watch the matches in our rooms--Not the case. Shame on you NCL. However, their ship's personnel are so accomodating and friendly, they almost make up for NCL's cost cutting. We took our daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren on this Alaska Cruise. We were told that Regent's summer Alaska cruises had lots of children... as a result...Regent brings over NCL personnel to have a quasi "kids club". There were close to 100 children on this cruise, and the excursions were more activate than the usual Regent excursions. Perfect for our family trip! However, this is not a Disney Cruise (we've been on four of those) so it's still grownup friendly. PS-The kids had a great time! The specialty restaurants continue to be excellent, and the Pacific Rim is still our favorite. The servers and sommeliers in all the restaurants couldn't be more patient and thoughtful. They were so kind, especially to our 11 year old grandson, and 9 year old granddaughter, who BTW had a cast on her arm. Everyone on the ship signed it from the Captain on down. The coffee connection makes the best cappuccino on the ship, and is a great spot for a quick breakfast or snack. Also , the afternoon tea and scones are wonderful. The lounge setting, quiet music and desserts offered make for a very relaxing and enjoyable hour. Having the kids with us, we played trivia, and did the daily Mensa quiz. Lots of family fun! As you can imagine, there was a lot more laundry than usual. It's such a pleasure not to worry about that aspect of traveling, especially with two very active children. Regent does a great job with their laundry service. The last complaint I'll make is what happened at the Ketchikan Port. We had taken the shuttlebus into town, and had over 2 hours before we had to get back to the skip for our excursions. It was a 15 minute ride, so we thought we would have plenty of time to explore this small Alaskian town before heading back. We arrived and looked over at a line that snaked around a holding area that reminded us of a Disney World Theme Park line. We asked the bus driver if that was the only line to get back onto a bus that would take us back to our Regent ship. He said YES! It seems that there was a NCL ship in port with 3,000+ passengers, and it looked to us that they were all in line to get back to their ship. On every other Regent cruise, and every other port we have been to, there was always a separate Regent entry to either tender or bus back to our ship. Not in Ketchikan! NCL decide to do away with the Regent only entry area, and have the Regent passengers (ship size 750 passengers) go through the NCL line. We realized there would not have had enought time to see the town if we had to wait on that line. So we just stayed on the bus, and returned immediately to the ship. NCL has made a number of decisions that I believe have hurt the Regent brand. This port of call situation being just another one of their cost cutting measures that I hope they reconsider. It may have been my imagination, but I believe NCL has also cut staff. After sailing on 13 cruises, the Regent personnel were still great, but it seemed everyone was a little more hurried. That being said, we do plan on sailing again with Regent. All in all, this was a great trip with our kids and grandkids.

One evening we were told we would have 8 ft swells, but the explorer handled the "rough seas" beautifully with barely a noticeable gentle rocking motion. No one seemed be affected. This was our first cruise and we will definitely be back! The ship was beautiful and never felt crowded. So many places to relax, read, grab a drink or just watch the incredible Alaskan scenery. The staff was superior! Always helpful and friendly. Our suite was great! Roomy, well appointed, great large double sink bath and fab walk in closet. Easy to settle in and get comfy. Food was great. Lots of choices but our favorite was lunch at the pool grill and dinner at Pacific Rim. We enjoyed the spa, especially the infinity pool. Entertainment was good, and we even spent a little time in the casino. Although we were waitlisted for additional reservations at the specialty restaurants we were able to get in for second nights at both Prime 7 and Pacific Rim so be sure to get in the waitlist if you want to enjoy a second dinner at any of them. Overall, we had a fabulous experience and we loved Regent!!!! I think we will be Regent cruisers for life!
