This was our 8th cruise and our second with Princess. We chose it for the itinerary and the departure from Puerto Rico. As other revieweras mentiones, the ship is older, so the décor felt dated and the stateroom furniture was a bit worn. That said, the cleanliness was consistently excellent, and the spaces were well designed; there was always plenty of room to sit and enjoy activities across multiple smaller stages. We also appreciated having full access to the ship; it wasn’t restricted to higher-paying elite passengers as is sometimes the case on newer ships. As others have noted, the midship stairs didn’t always seem to lead where you expected, so there was quite a bit of walking, but for us the extra steps were a bonus. The food was solid, not particularly adventurous, but consistently tasty. The smaller buffet area was a bit surprising at first compared to the elaborate displays and variety of stations on newer ships, but we always enjoyed what we ate and never felt like we were missing out. As we had the Premier package we ate most dinners in the specialty restos. Our one dining room dinner was ok but not the culinary experience we look for on cruises. If you have the Premier package, don’t forget you can order upgraded liquor (for example, a Diplomatico rum and coke instead of the default Bacardi). We only realized this halfway through the cruise. Service was excellent - friendly, attentive, and always helpful. A standout experience was the Chef’s Table. The crew seemed genuinely proud to serve their creations and share insights during the galley tour, and their positive attitude made it a special evening. It would have been helpful to know in advance which nights were formal or “dress to impress.” The app didn’t include this information, though many passengers seemed to know; perhaps it was listed in the printed schedule? Activities were fun and easy to join. The Princess staff kept things lively, organized, and running smoothly, with a great balance of energy and professionalism. There was a wonderful variety of live music throughout the day, including a virtuoso violinist and an incredible pianist. We ended up enjoying this cruise much more than expected. Although there was only one sea day, we visited islands not typically included on itineraries departing from Florida. An older ship sailing out of Puerto Rico shouldn’t be overlooked.
Embarkation So very easy, Princess advised to just arrive between 12:30P-4:30PM. We were too excited to wait and arrived at about 11AM handed off our bags and on to Blue Check in line to pick up our medallions. No wait just picked up and proceeded to ship. Inside Cabin that was surprising to us. Layout was great with two large closet spaces and beds on opposite side so layout worked out perfectly. Never felt cramped or uncomfortable and the AC worked great. There was plenty of USB outlets on deck and in lamps. Room stayed cold everyday, and on last evening when our potty didn't flush room steward called maintenance and they easily fixed within seconds. Great room for an inside room. Main Dining Room was spectacular, great service, food variety, and meals were delicious. We had the Botticelli dining room with same table at same time each night. Not a shared table, but close to other tables that were finishing up. Only ate in this dining room for Breakfast and Dinner each night with exception of 1 night we went to Crown Grill. Crown Grill was okay but service wasn't the friendly familiar fast service we had in main dining room. Never ate at buffet, but ordered room service for lunch one day and it was great. Typical cruise activities of Art Auctions, Bingo, Gambling, and Trivia. The few minor themed events were not advertised and only lasted like 80 minutes. I booked this cruise just for the itinerary, so wasn't looking for activities. A few ducks hid and found. All the staff was wonderful, no complaints really. I did have difficulties having guest services apply an EGift Card I had to my onboard credit. Took 3 different day attempts to get them to help. So surprised with San Juan. This is my 4th time visiting and other times I visited was after storms so I couldn't see the true beauty of the location. So thankful that we had an extra day post cruise to explore. Pre Cruise hotel we stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn with access to Condado Beach Hotel. The overnight price of $600+ was way too high for the Hilton Garden Inn. We spent most our time over at Condado Beach. Had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant at Hilton Garden Inn which was pleasant and service was nice. Post cruise hotel was Hotel Rumbao for $300 a night this was WELL WORTH it. So easy to walk over at 7AM and check in/bag drop to go explore. We walked all over Old Town and the forts, then went back to hotel at about 10:00AM to have breakfast and thankfully they called at 11AM to say our room was ready. HIGHLY recommend the Hotel Rumbao and would stay again if cruising out of San Juan We spent our day at the Westin St. Thomas and sister property Frenchmans Reef. About a 10 minute taxi ride. Had advance reservations with Resort for a Day and all went smoothly. Beach is gorgeous. Had lunch in the beach side restaurant, a bit pricey but lunch by the beach is worth the cost. Resort for a Day excursion here to the Sonesta Maho. Another great day with no problems. Check in was easy and smooth, enjoyed the day watching the planes land and take off. Enjoyed lunch at the beach front grill no problems and great service. Cannot wait to go back. Resort for a Day excursion at Ocean Point Antigua. No problems here, just a very quiet relaxing day by the pool with ocean views. Enjoyed lunch before heading back to the ship. Great value for the price. Dominica Princess excursion of Trafalgar Falls, Roseau, and Botanical Gardens. The ship docked in an industrial port not at the downtown port that I was expecting so was super thankful to have cruise excursion that I didn't have to venture out in that port area. The tour with Princess was about 3 hours and there was about 9 of us all together on the tour. Botanical gardens was a bit disappointing, not like the gardens we have in Ohio. 7 night S. Caribbean Cruise with 6 ports of call and Barbados was my absolute favorite! The Port area was beautiful, clean, and had very clear directions. We did the Atlantis Submarine with Resort for a Day which was $50 less per person than cruise. Roundtrip transfers were included and was smooth. Absolutely would cruise the Grand Princess again as I see a cruise ship as my means of transportation. I book for the destinations not for the ship most of the time. I will also share we did the Basic Bare Minimum no extra packages added on and still had a great time! I had Verizon Cellular at Sea service which was $20 per day, I found the Princess Medallion internet worked much faster so by end of week I changed over to pay daily $18 (50% discount for elite) and found it to work perfectly. And also if you've never spent your day in port at a Resort, I highly recommend. Love this concept as the perfect way to escape the cruise ship crowds and scope out Resorts for another possible vacation spot. Resort for a Day has always worked well for me. Love that they monitor my cruise schedule and proactively refund if ship misses port.

Cruise to St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Antigua, Dominica, and Barbados. Took our two adult sons and wasn't expecting much to be honest. Wife and I are in our 60s, pretty active, and have been on maybe 10 cruises, including Carnival, RC, Princess, and most recently Viking). So the plusses were a nice surprise and the negatives didn't affect the overall trip. We flew into San Juan the day before and stayed at the Candado Plaza hotel, which was not cheap. The room was fine but they only had one working elevator and they were very crowded. Dinner at a local place (Havana Grill) was very good. Prearranged transfer to ship went off without a hitch. We boarded pretty expeditiously (we had gotten our medallions in the mail prior). I ended up liking the medallions more than I thought I would. Cabin: Cabin was nice enough, Baja level (11) wish there was a little more room between the bed and the wall but no biggie. Bed was comfortable (priority #1) and shower was decent (priority #2). Nice balcony. Could have used a little chair to sit and get dressed with. Our room attendant Rosa was wonderful, friendly and helpful! Dining: We ate all dinners in the MDR (the one that takes walk-ins). Sometimes there was a 20-30 minute wait. You could be seated immediately if you wanted to share a table, which we did once. Met some nice Canadiens! Not overly impressed with the food. Not bad by any means, but not going to blow anyone away. The appetizers and desserts I felt were better than the entrees. Portions were small...by the 3rd day the sons were ordering two entrees (which they got no problem). Lunches were usually late lunches after an excursion, either at the Horizon Court buffet or one of the poolside eateries (Salty Dog - dogs and burgers, or Slice - pizza). Both of those were perfectly fine. Breakfasts were usually in the buffet but twice we did the MDR. Not thrilled with the breakfast buffet. The eggs tasted like they were made from powdered. Bacon and sausage and corned beef hash were so-so. If you used the omelet bar, you had to wait 15-20 minutes. Decent fruit and cereal selection (would have liked to have seen Cheerios though). Pastries were ok...often they look good but the taste doesn't match. But they had bagels and smoked salmon most days so I was happy with that. My biggest gripe of the trip was that the various servers around the pool and bar areas, and even in the buffet rarely asked us if we want anything to drink. yeah we could flag one down, maybe. But they should be asking everyone non-stop. And most often going to the bar to order for yourself meant a long wait. They got to work on that. Entertainment: We saw one show (comedy duo) in the main theater. They were very good. Other musical acts throughout the ship were also very good. We also had a lot of fun with the various trivia and game shows that were run each evening. I like my cigars so I loved that Snookers Bar was still intact. There was also a large outdoor smoking area aft deck 15, which was usually very crowded since the temps at night were great. Seat cushions in this area could uses a refresh. The excursions were handled efficiently and effectively. Loved that the picture taking has been toned down and digitized (I hated walking past the 1000s of printed photos). The ship seemed a little old compared to some of the newer ships out there but I thought it was in decent shape. Overall a fun trip
