Very enjoyable. I’m genuinely surprised by some of the complaints I’ve read because they simply didn’t reflect our experience at all. Positives (other than the obvious) I really appreciated that there were several adults-only venues onboard. Personally, I think The Retreat is a bit of a waste of money when you already have the adults-only Beachcomber Pool & Bar, the Crow’s Nest, and Anderson’s Bar & Library. Not everyone wants to spend every waking hour surrounded by other people’s children, and it’s nice that P&O caters for that. Tip: If you’d like fewer children onboard while still enjoying decent weather, sail in late June or early July before the English schools break up. There were still quite a few Scottish and Irish children onboard, but in my experience they generally seemed much better behaved than the English ones as a whole. That’s just my observation, of course. The bed in our cabin was incredibly comfortable. I can’t stand soft mattresses because they leave me with terrible backache. This one was lovely and firm—I slept brilliantly every night. If you’re thinking of booking another cruise, do it while you’re onboard. We got an excellent deal, along with extra onboard credit, so it was well worth it. The lads in the 710 Club were, without question, the best musicians onboard. We ended up going back several times because they were that good. The Pearl MDR was our favourite restaurant. The menu had plenty of choice, and every meal we had there was enjoyable. The Classic Drinks Package was worth every penny. We definitely got our money’s worth. I was genuinely impressed by how efficiently embarkation and disembarkation were handled. Given the number of passengers, the organisation was outstanding. Negatives Honestly, there were very few. If I had to nit-pick… The food in Olive Grove was disappointing, especially compared with everywhere else we ate. The gym was far too crowded. Even around noon it was difficult to get on the equipment. A handful of crew members weren’t particularly friendly. That said, it didn’t really bother me because I still received good service, and the vast majority of the crew were pleasant and smiling. By the end of the cruise, they’re probably just as exhausted by constant complainers as everyone else is.
