Ship Reviews

It was a very enjoyable cruise with excellent weather. The ship was adults only which made for a good atmosphere on board. The shower in our cabin worked well and our cabin boy kept us well stocked up with things (including two spare toilet rolls). The items in the buffet were often mislabelled (eg cereals (bran flakes labelled as something else), cheese (Red Leicester labelled as Cheddar), tea (ordinary tea labelled as Earl Grey), sausages (ordinary sausages labelled as spicy ones) etc). There were more talks than normal and more modern films than of recent times when we have cruised with P&O. There was a wide variety of entertainment to suit most tastes including theatre shows, musicians (classical, rock, jazz, pop etc – something for most people), a comedian, talks, films, quizzes etc. Shuttle buses were only laid on at one port. Most didn’t need it but a few could have. We were booked on Freedom dining (ie not set times) but the virtual booking system did not work very well at all – the dining room opened at 1800 but the virtual queuing system didn’t open until 1830. We generally had to wait over an hour to get a table. The theatre was stylish but not of a practical design as there was often not much space between, seats, tables etc. The vocal workshop did not work towards a performance. . These were minor niggles. All the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and welcoming and we wouldn’t hesitate to book the Arcadia again.

The embarkation was extremely quick and smooth. Luggage arrived at the cabin by late afternoon. The cabin was a deluxe balcony on C deck. The balcony was quite small but fine for two of us to sit out. we sat out most days. The food in the main dining room was very good but initially the queues for freedom dining were long, taking one hour to one and a half hours to be seated. We tried sharing a table and a table for two. The restaurant gave us complementary drinks to thank us for our patience. Dining in the specialist restaurants were mixed. We loved Sindhu tiffin lunch and the pop up Beach House@Sindhu but we were disappointed with Ocean Grill. Maybe our fault because we thought it was going to be similar to Epicurian on the other ships. THe daytime speakers and classical recitals were excellent and we enjoyed most of the shows in the Palladium theatre.....a really nice theatre. The port destinations were excellent, particularly Visby and Stockholm. We had booked on 2 excursions before sailing, On your Own Gdansk and On your Own Stockholm. both excellent. We were disappointed with the excursion in Aarhus on the paddle steamer because there was a 3,937 feet descent to the steamer on loose gravel and steps without railings. It was certainly not a moderate excursion. The person from P&O shore experiences, who accompanied us, agreed and she said that she wrote a full report on her return. Disembarkation was very quick and smooth, no problems at all. The crew ,as always, were brilliant....helpful and friendly. Despite one or two issues we had a fantastic time and the weather in the Baltic was stunning.

This was our first time on Arcadia and we loved the ship. Staff were helpful and polite, always going the extra mile. We found the food lovely, but a bit more variety would have been nice in the buffet. We like our curries, although Sindhu fell a bit short for us in terms of portion size and flavour. The entertainment and the venue's on the ship were first class, the Globe and the Crows nest being two of our favourites. Theatre shows were brilliant, with a good choice. Also, our cabin was kept spotless throughout our cruise. Really our only gripe was on black tie nights. They are great on their own, but we felt a bit cheated due to the amount of restricted venue's we couldn't use on these nights. Overall a great experience on a great ship. We are back on Arcadia next year and looking forward to it already. Can't wait.
