I'm kinda new to cruising, as I always thought I wouldn't like it. My wife talked me into one last year on Silver Seas which was awesome except the food was a big weak spot. This year I had heard that Oceania had great food and the Alaska cruise would be hosted by the ships "Godmother" Claudine Pepin (Jacques daughter and co-star) and her talented chef husband Rollie Wesen. Being members of their foundation, we were in. We changed from a Windstar Cruise to go on this cruise, went to their demo, got to meet, greet, and engage with them about Jacque and their Foundation, which all made the trip special for us. The cruise was fantastic because: First, the staff and crew were on the whole and every one of them, a congregation of the happiest, friendliest people, from all over the world that I've ever seen. Every day, every hour, every hallway & room we were greeted with big sincere smiles. It was amazing and all put together by the incredibly talented and funny general manager Ludmila Zelkin. What an asset to the company she is. The shore excursions were great for the most part, some better than others only because of things not in their control, like the salmon hadn't started running, so the bears and wildlife weren't out in force. Still, some excursions stood out and were amazing! a: In Ketchikan, the Wilderness adventure (boat ride) to George's Cove Crab Feast is a MUST do. The best, sweetest crab I have EVER had. All you can eat....and I did. Totally worth it! b: The boat to the base of Hubbard Glacier was awesome and the close-up of Hubbard was really amazing. We even spotted and watched a huge Brown Bear having lunch on the shore. Totally worth it! c: The train in Skagway to White Pass again was awesome. Really beautiful and just an incredible feat of men & women. Totally worth it! d: In Juneau, if you’re doing the whale watching tours, spend the money and just do that and not the combo whale watching / Mendenhall Glacier tour. On the combo tour we saw few whales at a distance, but the just whale tours went where they are and saw pods of whales and Orcas right next to their boats. Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau is a short bus ride and really worth seeing, especially if you do the walk to the falls. The walk feels long but is fairly flat but it's the best part. We saw a huge porcupine munching in the trees and the falls are beautiful. Not if you're not a walker. e: The Bear Fortress in Sitka was really worth seeing as is the raptor center BUT Do NOT pay for and take the long boring tour! The tour part in a 10-passenger van, where they drove to and stopped at some very boring sites, unloaded everyone including many less than agile older folks to talk and take worthless pics was really bad. Just get off and pay for your own driver to the centers and the walk through the park. f: The gondola to the top at Icy Point and the hike at the top was great. But the largest, highest zipline in the world (which you don't have to do unless you're like me) was an adrenaline filled blast. Totally worth it! g: In Klowok, the fishing trip and then eating the fish you catch trip to Eagle Rock Lodge was fantastic. We all caught great fish (Halibut, Cod, Sea Bass, Salmon) and then cooked and ate the great fish. At the lodge we saw literally dozens of Eagles, I think I counted 30+ in the trees and on the beach around us eating, screeching, and soaring. Way more than any eagle watch trip. Totally worth it! h: In Victoria if you're a gardener Buchart Gardens is stunning but a long bus ride to and from. We got our own taxi, who waited for an hour for our return, and it was half the price and much faster. Also, I enjoyed just cruising around downtown. near the Empress Hotel and high tea. A couple of misses on the tours were: a: Golf in Wrangle. I did it just to say I did, but not really golf. Beautiful but… poor equipment, poor conditions, terrible greens, but hey.....I golfed in Alaska. b: the "tour" part of the Bear Fortress in Sitka. OK, back on the boat. We came for the food and we got the food. Most were delicious and some amazing with only a couple of misses: In ALL of the specialty restaurants the food was excellent with standout dishes in each. Also, all of the wine/ food pairing dinners and lunches, especially with Claudine & Rollie, were 5-star delicious and amazing. Also, we were quite surprised and very happy with the buffet restaurant, the Terrace Grill. It really was very good with occasionally great food. One of our favorite dinners was there on night with delicious lamb chops, fresh sushi, ribeye steaks and more. And last, the special brunch towards the end was a great food extravaganza. Tons of lobster, crab, caviar, seafood, meats, pastries, desserts, veggies and treats of every kind. The only 2 food misses which kind of annoying were: a- Room Service: We had something almost every day, usually small orders but dinner on the first night and one breakfast. In the 12+ orders, they didn't get a single one correct and we had to recall and recall with stuff missing or just wrong. May have been and language understanding thing. b: The Grand Dining Room, which was the no reservations needed option other than the buffet, was just plain not good, which was hard to explain. Service was good, but food was not tasty or well prepared. In addition, the entertainment was very good, but especially onboard singers and dancers who put on great shows, the onboard musicians who played everywhere, the magician/ comedian - Greg Moreland - all of whom were excellent. The only miss here was the late-night nightclub, where the singer was not...well....on key, Wasn't fun. In addition, there were some fun activities to keep engaged, the gym was very nice and last but not least, the casino was just big enough and had a few fun tournaments, poker & blackjack that I loved. Oh and by the way, the bed was seriously comfortable ( I didn't make it longer than 10 minutes before deep sleep) and the room was very nice. All in all we had a really, really great time.
The July 2-14, 2026, Alaska cruise aboard Oceania Riviera was my first cruise. I chose Oceania because I have autoimmune conditions that I control largely with diet, which means I avoid gluten, dairy, and eggs. It's really challenging to eat away from home with those choices, but Oceania said they could accommodate me. I can't say enough good things about the dining staff, because they made this happen. Every night I was given a page with food options for the next day. I selected my preferences from among the many dishes that met my needs. Oceania came through EVERY day. Even the scheduled Culinary Center class accommodated my diet restrictions. I never got sick with accidental exposures to gluten, dairy, or eggs, which has happened to me before on land travels to Europe. I was ready to give up travel until I decided to give a cruise - specifically Oceania - a chance. They wow'd me! I will cruise with them again. I need to mention that the housekeeping staff was incredible. Our stateroom steward was a delightful young man. He and his assistant made sure we never lacked for a single thing. Our room and bathroom were always spotless. The ship is beautiful. I also like the small size (1,200 passengers and 700-800 staff). I didn't understand Oceania's claim of "small ship" until we encountered HUGE ships from other cruise lines in some ports. Oceania has logistics down to a fine art. Embarkation and disembarkation were efficient and quick. My only negative experience happened at the first port that required tendering to move guests from the ship to the dock. The process seemed chaotic and unprepared. The second and third ports that necessitated tendering went smoothly. I was disappointed with the Riviera's boutiques. My companion wanted to purchase items as gifts for family. There was no purchasing anything, because the "boutiques" sold only high-end jewelry. All I could think was, "Are you serious? Do you really think that every guest on board wants to purchase diamonds and other precious stones while on a cruise?" Obviously I wasn't the only person on board who felt that way, because I never saw anyone making a purchase. The sales people stood around, looking incredibly bored. I guess so, because there was nothing for them to do. Oceania allows guests to bring aboard 3 bottles of wine per guest and enjoy them in their stateroom. We certainly did enjoy a glass or two or wine on our veranda every day. I very much appreciate that gratuities are included in the price of the cruise. We never had to tip anyone or pay for anything extra, because those things were paid for up front in the cruise price. It made for a very pleasant experience. What else can I say? I am an Oceania fan and will gladly cruise with them again. For those reading this review, keep in mind that Oceania caters to an older demographic. No children (under 18) are permitted.

Sirena does not offer any dedicated Kids & Teens facilities. On selected cruises, however, the Alaska Explorer Youth Program is available: For guests who travel with children, Oceania's Alaska Explorer Youth Program offers the opportunity for everyone to experience the excitement of exploring the Northwest Coast and Alaska in a meaningful, enriching way. Designed for age groups between 5 and 12, the program is supervised by experienced and enthusiastic youth counsellors and includes games, activities and Alaska-inspired special events.
