Ship Reviews

Just got back from a 13 day cruise on Oceania Riviera to Alaska. Fabulous experience top to bottom. Was not impressed with the "Excursions". Went on 1-2 then decided just to venture out on my own at the various ports. This worked well! My stateroom was lovely and the cabin guys on my deck were fabulous. Food was excellent!! I was so impressed that I signed up for another cruise with them to New Zealand and Australia in January 2027. I had heard that Oceania is not for people under 18 - which I appreciated - they cater to a more senior crowd. I traveled solo but met a lot of wonderful people. I didn't participate in any of the entertainment so cannot comment on that. I ordered room service once after missing dinner following an excursion. It was at my room very quickly and still hot! Ship was very clean and well taken care of.

We booked a Concierge level cabin and were very pleased with the size of the cabin and the storage space. The extra drawers and cabinet in the bathroom were most helpful. The closet was spacious but it's placement is a bit awkward being very close to one side of the bed so only one person can access at a time. The outlet in the bathroom is only for an electric razor so I dried my hair at the desk/vanity. Robes and slippers are available in the cabin and are very nice. Embarkation was smooth with a welcoming glass of sparkling wine. The buffet was the only option for lunch but when we arrived it wasn't as crowded as we thought it would be so we were able to have a nice meal while waiting for our cabin to be ready. The welcome bottle of prosecco in our cabin was able to be given to a wine steward who put it in reserve for us to enjoy our last night on board. Since it wasn't brought on board with us there was no corkage fee. Our cabin steward and his team were great. Our fridge was replenished every morning with soft drinks, the ice bucket was always full and we were always greeted by name when passing in the companionway. The Grand Dining room menu changes every day for lunch and dinner. My husband took the "backstage" tour and learned they have a 24 day menu rotation. We did room service breakfast 5 or 6 times and the only morning we had a problem was the morning of our spa appointments. We thought we had allowed enough time to return to our cabin not taking into account when we booked the massages that there was a full crew drill at the same time we asked breakfast to be served. We had no idea they tried to deliver it early and when I called was told about our timing conflicting with the drill. We told room service to forget the order and were dressing to go to the buffet when we received a call back letting us know our meal was on its way. Every other morning they were on time and everything was perfectly prepared The Wash/Dry/Fold laundry service was very good. We sent out 2 bags during our 13 days which meant we didn't have to pack as much since we flew across the country to board in Seattle. The evening shows were very good. 45 minutes in length so there was always time to visit the Horizons Lounge for their late night "Happy Hour" with 2 for 1 drinks if 10pm is too early to go to bed. Afternoon Tea is a wonderfully civilized hour with a string quartet. Savory and sweet selections were plentiful, although, you have to ask for scones which are served warm. Each guest has their own pot of hot water and members of the waitstaff circulate with an extensive tea selection. The few lectures on sea days were interesting and we were able to visit the deck forward of some crew cabins when we approached the glaciers. The captain does not always open that deck space so we were happy to have this vantage point. The staff, from the captain on down, were friendly, courteous and attentive. There is open seating in the Grand Dining Room so we didn't have the same table or servers for our meals and at times were seated with other passengers which we didn't mind at all. Trivia was fun and we met and teamed up with some nice folks. The on board games allow you to collect points to redeem at the end of the cruise for Oceania merchandise. I wish we had done the art scavenger hunt. I did take a couple of books out of the library. The selection is good and is a great place to head when you board to get first pick. Either print out a deck plan or ask for one at Reception so you can figure out what places are fore or aft. Having that information on the directory at each elevator would help but, alas, a printed copy is the most we could hope for until we got our bearings. Our shore excursions were booked with Oceania and were fun. More fun in Hoonah if the weather had been better but we had planned for rain. We dined at 3 of the 4 specialty restaurants and enjoyed all of them. We skipped Red Ginger because the menu didn't inspire either of us. Do book your specialty dining as soon as it opens up. I waited until the next day and the only times available were 7:30 or 8:30. The onboard newsletter is left on your bed every evening at turn down and has all activities listed along with all shore excursions. Communication is very good with "The Morning Show", taped by the cruise director, is available for viewing after 10pm the night before so you have more information about the next port and other activities. While there is a published dress code, it's not enforced. We are in our 60s but many passengers were considerably older and needed mobility aids. I took a couple of photos of the "parking area" for scooters to send to some friends back home. Disembarkation was also smooth but, as with most cruise lines, it's a hurry up and wait process. Luggage stickers are provided the night before in a color with a number and you wait until your color and number are called. We did room service breakfast that morning which seemed to be the most expedient so we could pack our carry on bags while we were eating since our checked luggage had to be outside our door by 10pm the night before. We easily cleared customs and were directed towards the bus that took us to the correct terminal at the airport. We would book again on Oceania. The ship size was perfect and the ratio of guests to crew was about 2:1. It was a very relaxing cruise. We never felt rushed and were able to enjoy each day the way we wanted to.
