This was our first Azamara cruise and we didn't know what to expect. We have taken several Viking cruises and can honestly say this was superior. The Embarkation was fast and seamless. The food was excellent. The service was great since there are only 700 guests max. The service and food was so superior we didn't even try the upgraded restaurants. Yes the excursions were not included like Viking but Viking excursions are bad to say the least. Azamara is very port intensive which we loved. In addition at most of the Mediterranean ports we arrived at 8am and left after 8pm giving us a lot of time to visit. Unlike Viking, tips and drinks were included in the price and the 24/7 room service menu was very impressive. Do not miss the hamburgers at the pool bar. The pool bar menu was the best I've seen as sea. We loved the extra details like the morning breakfast with table cloths on the veranda, very classy. The linens and bathrobes were excellent. The bed was the finest bed I've ever had on a cruise. The cabin was silent we never heard our neighbors and the AC was fantastic. However, the bathroom is a sore spot and the butt of most jokes from the passengers. You will end up getting the bathroom soaked because of the lousy shower curtain and shower design. Many larger passengers said they bathed at the spa since they couldn't fit in the shower! They supply Elemis products which is nice but there is not much more they can do with the bathroom. Another anomaly is the charge for internet which seemed weird for an upscale line. They have a 6 person band which was good but they rarely utilized them, not sure what they did all day. It would of been nice to hear them during the day even at the pool. There is almost no activities provided during the day. They have singers and dancers who were adequate and would of been better if the shows were professionally produced, instead they were dreadful. I was embarrassed for them. The guest performers were great (no musicians, magicians, etc. ) Azamara should only have guest performers with various skills and eliminate their band and singers/dancers. The Azamazing night was a lot of fun and memorable. The white night on the ship would of been better if we all didn't have to fight in a small space for the buffet. The staff looked like they were going to pass out from the heat in addition the food at the event was mediocre. Next time we will eat in the dining room and then join the festivities. Also, I recommend calling Azamara if you need answers since their website is not user friendly. If you are handicap I cannot recommend Azamara. The pool has no steps to enter just a latter and there is no handicap pool chair lift. In addition none of the heavy wood doors open automatically making it very difficult for a handicap person. In the end although it is an older ship with some hiccups, (it will go in for refurbishment next year 2027, which is needed since the cabins are outdated), the attention to service and the food will have us as returning customers.
