The staff members of the AmaLucia and the AmaSiena cruise ships were exceptional, attentive, and always anticipating our needs. The food was top-notch, the ship spotless, and the excursions were well-planned, fun, and educational. I enjoyed the diversity of the crew and local guides, as well as visiting so many new places. The low water levels were not Amawaterways fault, however, the communication about the changes was inadequate and disappointing. They never disclosed how long the transfer between ships would be, instead billing it as an “excursion” because two hours in Luxembourg was sandwiched in the middle of a seven-hour drive. We left ship one at 8:00 a.m. and boarded ship two at 6:30 p.m. And the only reason I had any inclination of the length of the time we would be in the motorcoach was that I Googled it beforehand. No matter how posh a bus is, seven hours of ride time is a lot for this old tush to endure. The real kicker was when the driver announced that the buses' bathrooms were for emergencies only. Bladder control is not one of my strong suits; I had no choice but to use one, and it was embarrassing. The 35 euros they provided us for lunch turned out to be an onboard credit; coupled with the 40% off a future cruise credit, their amends fell short. Packing and unpacking was inconvenient, especially when one of the selling points of cruising is to unpack once and visit the many ports. Cruising the Rhine was the cornerstone of the vacation we built, as it would have balanced beauty and serenity with the excursions. It’s hard to put a price on that, and an offer to reschedule would have increased my satisfaction with the company. Or maybe they could have matched their competitors’ offers. Viking customers received a 60% future cruise credit, and Avalon gave its customers 25% cash back. You meet a lot of people on excursions, and they talk. Finally, no one ever communicated how much sailing we would miss while we were making last-minute decisions; again, I learned more from Google Maps than AmaWaterways. Despite the disappointment, the staff, food, excursions, and people made this a memorable trip, and I am grateful to have had it. My complains fall into the domain of the decision makers in management.
The Amawater ship and crew were stellar. The fact that this was a reaction cruise to an issue on the AmaSofia did not change the service and treatment experienced on the Tulip agenda. My wife and I both find the Amawater treatment positive in all ways that can affect a river cruise experience. From fantastic food and extreme positive interaction with ship crew and support personnel.The ship itself reflects Amawater professional sailing experience. The cruise director was very professional and the excursions were interesting and conducted with very few problems. The scheduling of on-board activities ,such as dinner,Happy hour,Lunch and breakfast were always timely and fit the excursion timeframes perfectly. The cabin was well attended and the amenities made the shipboard life very comfortable. I cannot say enough regarding the dinning experience during the entire cruise. From excellent food choices to very appealing food layout in the dining area, all made to experience a treat.
This was my first AmaWaterways boat..It was extremely a delight..Spacious areas to sit outside of the cabins. I LOVED the area on the sundeck with the couches/pillows! That was my favorite sailing thru the Rhine Gorge viewing the castles. My French Doors Cabin was the best! Opening the glass doors to feel the fresh air and view from side to side without even being outside! That was my favorite since I was alone I was still able to enjoy outside in the evenings/mornings without having to go out on the sundeck…I loved where my room was on the boat…I was just below about 8 steps from the 24/7 coffee machine and could go up these few steps to obtain a cup of coffee in my decent PJ’s first thing in the morning (which I loved)! AND, it was always so HOT and freshly brewed!! I did not want to get off this wonderful Cruise! My Cruise Director, Fredericko, was the BEST!
There are 79 staterooms and suites across multiple categories. All include climate control, flat-screen TVs, spacious bathrooms, and a desk and chair. Most feature AmaWaterways’ signature twin balconies — one French and one step-out balcony — offering fresh air and river views. Suites provide additional space with larger sitting areas and expansive bathrooms with both a bathtub and separate shower.
AmaSiena has two main restaurants: the Main Restaurant, serving elegant meals inspired by the regions you sail through, and The Chef’s Table, where a multi-course tasting menu is prepared in a glass-enclosed kitchen.
